Another party is introduced to the narrative; could be a friend or family member or whatever. The point is that I have the capacity to support them but I don't know if they do for me.

The machine being undefined points to what feels like fading humanity, i.e., becoming a machine. There is also a 'they' party introduced, obviously hostile, much akin the 'the man'.

I've begun to take a possessiveness over myself, trying to break the chains, however real they may be. Only I am allowed to use this machine.

The subtle change from "I know I'll be for you, but..." to "You know I'll be there for you" is for a natural tradeoff of "but..." and "there" to fit into seven syllables. Swapping "I" and "You" seemed like a good accompaniment to the swapping of the cut words.
